My Older Sister Left For Basic Training Last Week

So last week my older sister left for Basic last week. My older sister ship date was January 13, 2009. Believe me she was nervous as hell leading up to her ship date. First of all she had to take the ASVAB which she really excelled at because she is smart as hell. Then she had to get her physical done. Which took a little longer then what she had excepted but everything turned out to be OK. On her ASVAB she scored a 69 which is pretty good, her recruiter was pretty proud of her and what not.

In me being in the Army for 8 years her recruiter had ask me to teach her some basic facing movements, the phonetic alphabet, military time, and the general orders. I was like really ” Teach my older sister some basic facing movements, the phonetic alphabet, military time, and the Army’s General Orders.” So I did. Let me tell you it was a little difficult to teach my sister all these things in the time that the recruiter had giving me. But being an NCO I had to teach her all these things so that she would be a little ahead when so is at Basic Training.

I also had my older sister doing a little P.T. program that I came up with. She was running, doing push-ups, sit-ups, flutter kicks, mule kicks, side straddle hops, the over hand clap. All that seemed to work she lost 12 pounds before she shipped to basic. She also knew the phonetic alphabet, and all the Army’s General Orders, and military time. So i wish my older sister the best in Basic, and through A.I.T.

She also studied for the ASVAB by using some of the books that she bought off e-bay. And all the studying paid off, she happened to get a 35,000 dollar signing bonus.

What Soldiers Like When They Are Deployed

When soldiers are deployed the are really in to DVD Box sets. For one these Box Sets are a great way to kill some time. Also these DVD box sets are great for like a squad, platoons to spend so time together. A great morale booster. You know when you get down time while all you want to do is to chill out and watch all the newest shit that came out from the United States.

For one thing you can have your wife, husband, or family send these DVD Box Sets sent through the mail. Your loved ones can pick up these DVD Box Sets From anywhere like Wal-Mart, E-Bay, Amazon hell even through my website. So if and when you talk to your soldier that is deployed in Iraq ask them what DVD Box Set would best fit them to watch and to kill some time with other soldiers.

What To Bring On Deployments

When you are going on a deployment you will need to bring a nice pair of running shoes. Because they are limited choices of running shoes at the BX/PX. For on thing you still do P.T while you are on deployment and there should be a gym that you can work out at. Also when you get done with your shift you can take off you A.C.U’s and get into your P.T’s and walk around the F.O.B, so you will need a good comfortable shoe so i would recommend New Balance Shoes. Because the New Balance Shoe is light weight and comfortable as hell. Its like the New balance Running Shoe is form fitting to your feet. So I would recommend that you pick up a pair of New Balance Running Shoes before you deploy, for P.T and just walking around the F.O.B.

Soldiers and Their Handycams

Man there are so many camcorders out on the market these days, I don’t know where to begin. I guess it is all up to the soldier on what he/she wants in a camcorder and on how much the they are willing to spend. These camcorders are great for deployments, field exercises, and sergeants time training.

Taking a hand held camcorder on a deployment is great for troop morale, way to document your deployment, and a way to keep memories of all the soldiers that you have served with in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Taking a hand hand held camcorder on a field exercises is also a great idea. For one thing you can do is video tape all your training for that particular field exercise. That will help you to see what your platoon, squad and individual soldier still need to train on before you get deployed. Gives you a great After Action Review(A.A.R.) right there in the palm of your hands.

Having a hand held camcorder on sergeants time training is also a great idea. For one thing if you are the platoon sergeant you could review the sergeant who is giving that particular training. To see if that NCO is up-to-date on the subject they are giving training on. Also is a great way to see if the troops need more training on that particular subject. Also the hand held camcorder is great for After Action Reviews(A.A.R) Cause you know if you are in the Army you can not do any training with out a After Action Review(A.A.R)

Soldiers and Their GARMIN CAR GPS Systems

The Garmin GPS is great for new soldiers around a new post. For one thing when you are a new soldier around a new post you want to know where all the local spots are at:

-Restaurants
-Gas Stations
-Local Attractions
-Local Parks
-Finding Local Addresses

The Garmin GPS has all these spots all ready programmed into it. It is easy as just hitting the touch screen, or typing in the address and the Garmin GPS will take you to that particular spot that you have touch on the screen or the address that you have type in.

The Garmin GPS also has up-to-date traffic information. It automatically optimizes the route your are taken for the shortest time possible.

What Do Soldiers Really Need When Deployed to Iraq

Anyone that has been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan knows that the temperatures are wild and crazy…hot as hell then freezing.

If your soldier is deployed currently in Iraq or Afghanistan then you should do them a favor and send them Under Armour. Under Armour is designed to work in the following environments:

Heat Gear: Tight compression fabric designed for high performance heat removal
Loose Gear: Loose fitting version of the same fabric, cut like a standard t-shirt
Cold Gear: Two-fold compression fabric designed to remove excess moisture while trapping heat
Underwear: Heat removal, comfort and moisture transport
Socks: Heat removal, impact dampening, and moisture transport

Soldiers and Their Gerber Multi-Tool

The Gerber Multi-Tool is great for any soldier. The Gerber Mulit-Tool is great tool for everyday. This multi-tool is great around the Motor-Pool, great around the Flight Line, and great around the shop. This multi-tool is also great for deployments as well. It is like having a freaking tool box on your belt. Cause you know there is some soldier always asking for a knife to use. So while I was the Army there are things that I never forgot to take to work. These things where I.D card, Dog Tags, Pen, Small Notebook, and my Gerber Multi-Tool.

A multi-tool is considered as a one stop shopping. It is very light and easy to carry. Multi-tool is a versatile and portable hand tool that uniquely combines several tool functions in just a single grip or sometimes in a shape of a credit card. They are small enough to be carried in you wallet or your pocket. A lot of models comes along with a pouch which you can wear them on your belt. It combines every tool that you need in every situation that you may encounter. It acts as a clip-point, wire cutters and serrated knife blades. It can also be a diamond coated file, a needle and regular nose pliers, wire strippers, screwdriver, can or bottle opener, wood saw and scissors. Everything you need is compacted in a handy single grip. These tools comes in different sizes, designs and packaging depending on the company’s preference. The tools incorporated in the device may also vary.

Running Shoes That you will Need In The Army

These Nike Shox Running Shoes are great for deployments, and at your regular duty station.

They are very comfortable, and stylish. These shoes are great for P.T. And believe me you will need a comfortable pair of Running Shoes while youa re doing P.T. So me being me A.K.A SGT Skully I would recommend that you pick up a pair of Nike Shox. For doing P.T.

SGT Skully Reccomends These Nike Shox For P.T.:

Soldiers and Being On Time

If you are a soldier you need to get a good freaking watch. First of all you need to know what time it is, and where you need to be on time. If that makes any sense at all. The first formation of the day is going to be your P.T. formation and you need to make sure that you are at least 10-15 minutes prior to this formation. This P.T. formation is also for accountable purposes as well. So make sure That you do not miss this P.T. formation.

The second formation of the day will be at your unit usually at 9am. This formation is usually just for checking on soldiers and to see if the soldiers are all squared away. The Platoon Sargent will give the command “Squad Leaders, Inspect your Squads.” And Me SGT Skully, I would walk through my squad and give them a visual inspection, ask to see their I.D. card, check their I.D. tags, and ask some of my squad members some soldering skills questions. I would also as to see if that all my male soldiers had proper hair cuts, check to see if that my male soldiers had shaved for the day.

After I got done inspecting my squad Platoon Sergeant would ask for the most squared away soldier from my squad and all the other squads. These high speed soldiers where in like a competition to see what soldier was the best soldier of the Platoon.

If my soldier was picked my Platoon Sergeant as the most squared away soldier from the Platoon I would reward that soldier by giving him the rest of the day off. Pretty good reward just for being all squared away.

So if you are a new soldier going into the Army get your self a good time piece, so you can be all squared away, on time to formations, and remember you never be late to a formation if you are 10-15 minutes prior to each and every formation.
